Losing a pet

Sadly last month my beloved dog Honey died. Dealing with the loss of a pet is always hard I myself had been fearing that day since I was ten. Our dogs are precious but sadly through all the love you have for them they don't live long enough. Honey was my favourite but I think its almost tragic thats she's physically out of my life already; I'm twenty and yet I'll never see her in my house or having a nap on my bed again; never give her a little cuddle. She spent her ten years alive as a much beloved family member and friend. I shall miss her forever and ever. My little happy dog ♡

I wish other people loved their dogs as much as my families devotion to Honey; people need to be nicer to the little lives that are around us daily. like the Pope said "Dogs have souls" which I find hilarious but also heartening; though not religious really something is comforting in that sentence.

Zoeva brushes

wow. I asked for the 25 piece brush belt for my Christmas present wanting a more professional set for my studio work. The quality of these brushes is amazing, yes of course to spend £150 on brushes to most is a expense and maybe unlikely but if your working with these every day and also cleansing regularly you need sturdy and a reliable brand. Ie no shedding.

now i started this blog a while ago after focusing more on my uni work (being lazy)
these brushes are still in brilliant order. For studio work the brushes should be cleaned every model/client just to keep to a high hygiene standard. For my own personal use I wash my brushes twice a week.

If your wondering if you'd actually use every brush in this set I thought the same but literally have multiple times in the studio; of course the regular used ones will become obvious such as blusher or concealer brushes.

The buffing brushes on this set are amazing; might not of noticed but a foundation brush isn't included but the set does come with a stippling and a number of different buffing brushes; in my kit I did add my kryolan foundation brush to the belt. Don't worry to much though the set isn't begging for a classic foundation brush.

Claudia + Quentin Project- makeup in motion

This project was all about the character, creating two characters that not fitted a brief but also a gothic horror television series. Mine was True Blood.

I like to share this on my personal blog just to show who ever is looking at this what I do at uni.

My blog for this project was

check it out love bugs

This project was from January to May and split into two, From Great expectations to this.

Throughout this entire project I've enjoyed not only the aspect of learning new makeup techniques and hair styles but also the thought of learning the historical side to do with them. I've realised I really enjoy blogging which is why I've chosen the option of writing for my topic next year as I think it would be extremely rewarding. The first half of the project was a big learning curve as I only really knew the Victorian era through films and books; I really enjoyed researching into Queen Victoria and found her life extremely interesting and emotional. The topic of Great Expectations was new having to learn about continuity being new to makeup anyway, continuity though will be one of those skills that will take me a while to learn as its so diverse I enjoyed myself though. The second and more resent part of the project was a true challenge as it tested not only our skills in makeup but also our imaginations. I find that for me personally I have a tonne of ideas but sometimes find it hard to express them properly through talking to even writing down. With this project I was excited from the start go being a huge face of the genre of television horror and found myself smiling at the list given having watch most of the series on there. The ideas for Claudia and Quentin I think are believable and in depth with the series I chose of True Blood; the show itself is extremely diverse and full of different roots I could of headed down. The final shoots were a lot of fun, a lot of planning had gone into my characters looks and persona's being picky on who I want to model my character as I had such a vision in my head. The makeup for each shoot was how I wanted from planning and practicing. I enjoyed location shooting but the studio images quality are more professional which I prefer. Overall this project has been really enjoyable I'm looking forward to next year.

Spectrum Brushes

So the other day I was looking into a new set of brushes that I could start investing in for my kit. I wanted something feminine but still with the qualities that any practicing or future Makeup artist would have to carry within their kit.

I discovered the company Spectrum seeing a post they were tagged in on another page that was using their brushes within a brush belt (it looked amazing). Wow these brushes are gorgeous in the collection I found the look of the brush was completely unique. Pink handles with a ombre blue to purple brush. I had to have a few.

Looking on the website I was completely surprise at the prices of the brushes describes as 100% synthetic vegan brushes I was expecting a hefty price tag especially with the design but actually prices for each brush is completely affordable and thats coming from a extremely poor student. The most expensive brush I bought was £9.99 a large fan brush that was much needed, the quality of the brush is even clear from the photo not only in real life once delivered the design of the brush basically means whilst applying you will be left with a soft un-heavy finish, on the websites images the hair on the brush looks slightly crimped this is designed with the idea of more product being collected which is helpful as it saves double dipping. Compared to other brands such as Mac you would be looking at spending a good £30 to get a quality brush; when you can get a good one for a tenner thats striking I know which one I'd now in future always be selecting.

In all I brought 9 brushes most of them were ON SALE. Ridiculously the 9 brushes only cost me £24.99

I brought:

1 Large Fan Brush
2. Artist Brush Set (was like a third of the original price)- this includes five brushes which were...

  • Large Oval Artist Brush
  • Large Angled Artist Brush
  • Small Oval Artist Brush
  • Small Angled Artist Brush
  • Fine Tapered Artist Brush

3. Small Contour Brush
4. Large Domed Brush
5. Eyeliner Brush

When they arrived I got a adorable thank you note which was a nice touch the brushes also came in a plastic pouch which will be perfect for keeping as a lipgloss, eyeliner, lipstick holder within a kit. The quality of the brushes is great extremely soft. After washing them the brushes have stayed soft and none of the lovely colour has faded. The handles are also extremely strong and made from wood which is perfect for busy MUA's who will have them in their hands all day long.

I still can't get over how good I got these prices, even on full price the 9 brushes I bought would set you back £55.95 (yes I've worked it out) which for 9 good quality brushes is hardly anything.

I would highly recommend looking into this up and coming Brush Brand.

Makeup for this time of year

Autumn makeup using @limecrimemakeup Salem on the lips, #mac goldmine and devilishly dark and a copper for the eyeshadow. Skin has been primed with @smashboxcosmetics photo finish primer and foundation is @kryolanofficial G177, contour has been created with the glamour glow 8 colour palette.

I love love love this look. The eyes are soft but still are carried against my dark hair and eyeliner flicks. You will notice as the blog continues I am a big fan of the 60's flick.
Salem Lime crime is also my favourite lick colour the matt finish looks so cool. As I'm currently based here in the UK Limecrime is harder to get ahold of but not impossible. Websites like Love Makeup & Cocktail Cosmetics sell a number of products... Getting the new Venus Grunge palette though is hard and pains me everyday knowing the beautiful copper eyeshadows aren't on my lids. TAKE NOTE the Limecrime Velvetine's aren't the longest lasting product. I had mine for about 6 weeks and noticed it was already drying up and finishing; of course though I wore it about 4 times as week as it quickly became my favourite lip colouring.

This look would also look great using a slightly more orange/copper eye shadowing; perfect for all skin types.

Elizabethan Project- Year 1, Term 1 ♡

Not only on my course do I do makeup but I also do hair styling. Hair for my has always been one of those things I've been terrible at until two months ago the only plait I could do for my entire life was the classic three sectioning plait that most five year olds can also achieve.

Our project was called 'The New Elizabethans' a pretty vast and widely intriguing project that was filled with film reviews and practicing. Yes eyebrows were blocked out. No I don't suit the look especially with the bushes I have on my face its alien territory.

This project was great. yeah stressful as hell but it was interesting. Like the little historian I was brought up to be the whole Tutor era from Bloody Mary & Henry VIII I knew my shit. Just call me Indiana might as well.

The project was an odd one but also tested our designing skills as obviously in a few years time we probably especially in the early years will be taking direction. Designing is a hugggeeeee skill to learn not only for following but giving.

My Designs my partner did on myself

I would show you my makeup final images but they are so hideously unflattering I will never publish them, bad lighting is my excuse. Well that or I have a lego man head. Here is my design. A Vivienne Westwood (G*D) & Disclosure inspired Elizabethan Look.

Anna's Designs

Hair-

Anna's Design I did on her.

I won't bore will all the facts on the Virgin Queen I learnt. Did you know she had 80+ wigs? That lady was a diva. *snapping fingers*

Face Chart finding is history

As a makeup artist practicing or learning we all know the importance of using face charts in our work. Not only do they help design our looks but we can also use them as a guide to how the create the makeup especially if your a makeup artist on a shoot and another person playing role of designer has created the look.

"Where can I buy face charts that aren't mac" I hear you ask?

The website I use is called Pro Chart and they sell a array of different facial charts from A4 to A3 to even eye charts. I charts myself brought were the 35 pack £12.50 pack due to finding a A4 sizing is easier to work with especially if your working in a studio with limited mirror space.

On the website this is described as the ProChart Pro Pack as it includes all the face chart sizings they sell.

I also brought a pen that is called a 'Eyelash Pen' which is really good for filling in eyebrows/eyeliner and eyelashes. Don't panic about buying this £2.99 pen though any graphic/drawing pen would also be preferable to presenting the same finished look.

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who has a interest in using face charts in their work not only is the price of these pretty great but the quality of the paper is a high standard being expressed on the website as recycled and textured.

Product listing is also included which is helpful is a look requires a lot of mixing or thats just the way you work.

You can find the website here. check it out!
